I would love to own a 2002, but every one that I ever see is all banged up and way overpriced like this one, or it's mint and 30k!

I've talked with the seller a little, they've dropped the price. Still to high though I think.

you're looking in the wrong places. I've helped ppl on here find cheap decent ones. For 10K you can get a killer car.

I looked around and they're more expensive than I remember them being but you can get an unmolested E30 for that price and have money left over.

I know they're different cars but I think I'm making sense.

Well I won't ask you to waste your energy looking now, as it's not in the budget at the moment. What sites/tools do you use to search for 2002's?

It's a big bumper car so less desirable.

Has a number of things that need fixing, and the carpet looks like ass.

Plus: rust. rust is not cheap to fix (well), and good luck getting all of it.

The 5 speed and rebuilt engine is a nice touch though so I'd put this one around $4,000. Not a bad car, and definitely worth putting money into fixing but definitely also somewhat of a project.

That's about what I though it was worth. There's easily 4K of work I think in those seat, fenders, exhaust, AC and carpet. Plus it looks like the valve cover is leaking.

I'm in CA, where we still have to smog '76s, so I'm not used to them being worth that. The 5-speed is nice, but it looks a little rough around the edges to justify that price. They're picking up in value, for sure. Don't worry about the AC, they were never really supposed to have it anyway, and the dash ventilation sucks. That's what the vent windows are for.
